Bangladesh Criticises MEA Statement on Hindu Leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Arrest as Unfounded
Bangladesh has strongly criticised the Ministry of External Affairs' (MEA) remarks regarding the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Dhaka described these comments as "unfounded" and contrary to the friendly relations between the two nations. The Bangladeshi government emphasised that its judiciary operates independently, without interference.

Chinmoy Krishna Das, leader of the Hindu group Sammilita Sanatani Jote, was detained by Bangladeshi police near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The MEA had earlier expressed serious concern over his arrest and subsequent denial of bail. Das also serves as the spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote.
Bangladesh's Response to MEA's Concerns
Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the MEA's comments do not accurately reflect the religious harmony present in Bangladesh. They argued that such statements misrepresent facts and undermine the spirit of understanding between the two neighbouring countries. The ministry reiterated its commitment to ending impunity for those committing human rights violations.
The Bangladeshi government assured that all citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs, have the right to practice their faith freely. They emphasised their dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, especially religious minorities. The government is committed to maintaining communal harmony throughout the country.
Security Measures in Chattogram
In response to recent events, Bangladesh has increased security in Chattogram following the killing of Assistant Public Prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif. Alif was killed during clashes between security forces and followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das after a court denied Das bail and sent him to jail.
The Bangladeshi authorities are deeply concerned about this incident and are taking steps to ensure that religious harmony is preserved at all costs. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all citizens and maintaining peace in the region.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions involving minority communities in Bangladesh. Despite these challenges, Dhaka remains focused on fostering an environment where all individuals can live without fear or discrimination based on their religious identity.
