Baby Of The House! This 22-Year-Old Boy Is The Youngest MP In UK Parliament

22-year-old Sam Carling defeated veteran Conservative MP Shailesh Vara to become the youngest member of the 'House of Commons' (UK's Parliament). Sam defeated Shailesh by a margin of just 39 votes. Soon after Election officials announced Sam Carling's victory, netizens awarded him "baby of the House" title. Some people also called his victory a political earthquake in UK parliamentary history, expressing increasing interest of youngsters in politics.

Carling is a Cambridge University science graduate.

"When young people see themselves represented in Parliament and local councils, it helps tackle apathy," Sam Carling described his win. He said that he follows the footsteps of fellow Labour MP Keir Mather, who was previously the youngest MP.

"I want us to get away from this strange mindset towards younger people's age. As far as I'm concerned, we're just the same as anyone else. I just want to get on with the job," Carling added.

Describing the kind of response he received from the people during the election campaign, Carling said he was assured of victory despite initial surprise at his candidacy.

"People on the doorstep were very positive. They said, 'That's good, we need more young people,'" he said. While he acknowledges the prevalence of online abuse aimed at younger individuals, he emphasized that face-to-face interactions have been overwhelmingly supportive.

Reflecting on the potential of his generation to shape a new era of politics, Carling said, "A lot of people have only ever been conscious of a Conservative government. I believe we can make significant changes and offer a better alternative, hopefully engaging more young people in politics."

As he prepares to take his seat in Westminster, Carling's victory signals a shift in the political landscape and the potential for greater youth representation in government.

The Labour Party ended the Conservatives 14 year rule with a landslide victory bagging 412 seats out of 650. While Conservatives got only 121 seats.
