‘Awww’ Moment: Indian-Origin Girl’s Maggi Lunchbox Melts Hearts In NYC Govt Video Celebrating Diversity

New York City's official government X account, @nycgov, recently shared a heartwarming video featuring a young girl of Indian heritage, Anya, who proudly showcased the contents of her lunchbox - shining a light on the vibrant diversity within the city's public schools.

The post was captioned: "True fact: there's never a curry better than mommy's. What's In My Lunchbox: Season Two is here! We're celebrating our city's diversity and AAPI Heritage Month through our public school students' lunchboxes. Tune in for a delicious ode to what makes New York special."

In the video, Anya introduces herself and excitedly talks about her lunch: Maggi noodles, a well-loved Indian snack.

"My name is Aanya and this is what is in my lunch. I brought Indian noodles called Maggi. We put the noodles in the pot, add hot water and our spices, and then it turns yellow," she explains.

When asked about her favourite food, she responds enthusiastically, "The chicken curry my mommy makes. She uses different spices, and each one has its own unique aroma."

Maggi noodles, cherished throughout India for their convenience and distinctive flavour, evoke a sense of nostalgia in countless households.

Anya's joyful narration struck a chord on social media, garnering praise and affection from viewers who welcomed the insight into New York's multicultural fabric.

One user commented, "Just adorable and sweet to share the beautiful diversity of our city. Thanks for sharing, Aanya!" Another wrote, "Awww so cute!!! We love you, Aanya!" while a third chimed in, "Yesss Maggi is life!!! This is so sweet - I love my mom's curry too."

The "What's In My Lunchbox" series pays tribute to the cultural backgrounds of students in New York City public schools by presenting the unique and diverse items in their lunchboxes.

Rather than a book or children's story, the initiative serves as a visual campaign spotlighting the city's rich multiculturalism.

A related Facebook post further underscored the effort to honour AAPI Heritage Month and the city's diversity through the eyes - and meals - of its youngest residents.
