Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was briefly evacuated from his official residence in Canberra on Tuesday evening after authorities received a reported bomb threat. Security agencies carried out a detailed search of the property before declaring the situation safe.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of political leaders in Australia amid a rise in threats in recent months.

Evacuation From Official Residence

According to officials, the 62-year-old Prime Minister was moved from his official residence, known as "The Lodge," to a secure location around 6 pm local time.
Police responded quickly after receiving information about a possible security threat near the property, which is located close to Parliament House in Canberra.

Authorities conducted a thorough inspection of the residence and surrounding areas. After completing the search and finding nothing suspicious, Albanese returned to The Lodge around 9 pm.

Police Confirm No Immediate Danger

An Australian Federal Police spokesperson confirmed that officers responded to a reported security concern at a protected location.

Officials stated that a complete search of the premises was carried out and no dangerous items were found. They also assured that there is currently no threat to the public or the community.

Police said further information will be shared if necessary once the investigation is fully reviewed.

Interview Recorded Before Incident

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Albanese had recorded a one-hour interview with a journalist at The Lodge. The security scare occurred just hours after the recording.
Although the Prime Minister has continued his regular duties, security around him and other federal leaders has been tightened due to recent incidents.

Rising Threats Against Political Leaders

The evacuation comes at a time when security concerns surrounding political leaders in Australia are increasing. Reports suggest that the Prime Minister and several federal lawmakers have received multiple threats over the past few months.

As a result, there has been a noticeable increase in security arrangements at public events attended by senior leaders.

In October last year, Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the creation of specialised national security investigation teams to handle threats against politicians and public officials.

She later informed a Senate committee that federal politicians, government officials and members of the Jewish community in Australia had been targeted by violent offenders. More than 20 people have been charged since late last year in connection with such threats.

While Tuesday's bomb threat turned out to be a false alarm, it highlights the growing security challenges faced by public leaders. Authorities continue to monitor potential risks and maintain heightened security around government buildings and political figures.
