Audio And Video Calls Coming To X: Elon Musk Reveals

Shortly after X CEO Linda Yaccarino's announcement that it would introduce a video calling feature, Elon Musk revealed that both audio and video call functionalities would soon be integrated into the platform on Thursday. This upcoming feature will be compatible with Android, iOS, PCs, and Macs, eliminating the need for a phone number to facilitate audio and video calls.

Musk's post read, "Video & audio calls coming to X: - Compatible with iOS, Android, Mac & PC - No phone number required - X is the global address book in action. This unique combination sets X apart."

The inclusion of audio and video call options will align X, formerly known as Twitter, with other social networking apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, granting users the ability to engage in video and audio conversations as X evolves into an "everything app." Previously, the company CEO had stated that the platform would enable video calls without necessitating the sharing of phone numbers.

Since Elon Musk's acquisition of the platform, he has expressed intentions to transform "Twitter" into an encompassing "everything app," even allowing posts of up to 25,000 characters. Alongside renaming Twitter to X, he officially renamed the aggregating platform TweetDeck as XPro. The renaming announcement was conveyed by Musk on July 28 through a tweet where he stated, "Name is changing to XPro. Will come with a wide range of psy op plugins."

Among the substantial changes made, the most significant was rebranding the micro-blogging platform from Twitter to X, along with replacing the "iconic" bird logo with an "X" logo. However, these changes led to not just a drop in weekly active users but also a four percent decline in X's weekly active users following the rebranding of Twitter, according to a report by TechCrunch citing data from SensorTower.
