As Israel-Palestine War Rages On After Hamas' Attack, Death Toll Crosses 1100, Over 100 Kidnapped

Over 40 hours after Hamas initiated an unprecedented attack from Gaza, Israeli forces continued to engage militants entrenched in various locations. The toll on Israel has been devastating, with reports indicating that over 700 people have lost their lives while over 400 people have been reportedly killed in Gaza.

The number of casualties surpassed 1,100 fatalities, with thousands injured on both sides. Israel formally declared a state of war on Sunday in response to an unprecedented Hamas attack. Over 100 people have been abducted and taken to the Gaza Strip, adding to the uncertainty and chaos surrounding the situation.

As per a report in the Times Of Israel, Israeli jets launched intense airstrikes on Gaza shortly after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced that the security cabinet had voted to put the country officially at war, granting it the ability to conduct significant military operations.

Fighting continued in at least three communities near the Gaza border, which had been overrun by Hamas militants the previous day. Rocket attacks persisted, causing concern for Israeli communities as the nation braced itself for what appeared to be a protracted campaign against the Gaza-based terror group.

In a shocking and widespread assault, Hamas gunmen infiltrated as many as 22 locations in southern Israel, including towns and smaller communities up to 15 miles (24 kilometers) from the Gaza border according to the Times of Israel report. They roamed freely for hours, targeting civilians and soldiers as Israel's military struggled to respond. Simultaneously, thousands of rockets were fired into towns in the south and center of the country.

The scenes of turmoil, suffering, and the protracted inability to regain control of the situation deeply shocked and outraged the nation. Questions arose about intelligence, deployment, and policy failures that led to this national catastrophe, with hundreds of terrorists infiltrating civilian communities in armed convoys.

Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer estimated that the death toll was "well north of 600 people," with the possibility of several hundred more casualties.

As communities were liberated from Hamas control, shocking scenes of streets, fields, and highways littered with bodies and abandoned vehicles were uncovered. In some cases, Hamas terrorists set buildings on fire to force people out of hiding, then proceeded to shoot or abduct them.

Hamas gunmen took an unknown number of civilians and soldiers captive in Gaza after overrunning several military bases and communities. Disturbing videos circulated on social media depicting the abuse of these captives.

The report further adds that the IDF established a situation room to gather accurate information regarding Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, and efforts were made to identify those killed using DNA samples provided by families.

The Government Press Office reported that over 100 hostages were being held in Gaza, including children, the elderly, and foreign nationals. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken mentioned efforts to confirm reports of Americans being killed or kidnapped in the attacks.
