Apple Launches iOS 18: What Are The New Features, Customization, And Which Are The Compatible Models?
Apple has begun rolling out iOS 18 globally as of September 15, 2024.
Unveiled at WWDC earlier this year, iOS 18 brings a host of new features designed to enhance user experience and customization.

Apple Launches iOS 18: What Are The New Features?
Here's a comprehensive look at what the latest update offers and what users can expect.
Key Features of iOS 18
1. Enhanced Customization
iOS 18 introduces significant updates to the Home Screen and Control Center, allowing for more personalized and flexible use.
- Home Screen: Users can now place app icons anywhere on the grid, resize them, and choose new 'Dark' and 'Tinted' color options. The update also lets users remove text labels beneath icons for a cleaner look.
- Control Center: The redesigned Control Center offers improved navigation and accessibility. Users can easily access media playback, Home Controls, and connectivity options. The update also allows integration with third-party app controls and customization of the controls displayed at the bottom of the Lock Screen.
2. Revamped Photos App
The Photos app has undergone its most significant redesign yet:
- Simplified Interface: Tabs have been removed in favor of a single-view grid for easier navigation.
- Automatic Organization: Photos are now automatically organized into new themes and collections. Pinned collections make it easy to access favorites, while a dynamic carousel view highlights key past memories.
3. Improved iMessages and Safari
- iMessages: New features include emojis, text effects, enhanced formatting options, and the ability to schedule messages for later. The update also adds RCS support for better messaging with Android devices.
- Safari: Safari now uses AI to summarize web pages and provide quick insights. The new Distraction Control feature hides website elements like sign-up forms and cookie prompts in Reader Mode, though ad banners will reappear if the content is refreshed.
Availability and Compatibility
The iOS 18 update will be available for installation on iPhone XS models and newer. Users can check for the update by going to Settings > Software Update. The new iPhone 16 series will come preloaded with iOS 18 and will be available for purchase starting September 20.
Compatible Models:
- iPhone 15 Series: 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Max
