Apple, FB raise perks for female employees; Will pay to freeze their eggs
This signalled a willingness of the top employees to spend enormous amounts to get the best of talents across the world.
Apple, moving on the same lines, will pay $20,000 to both full-time and part-time employees for procedures and storage costs for female employees to freeze their eggs.
In a statement, Apple said,"We continue to expand our benefits for women, with a new extended maternity leave policy, along with cryopreservation and egg storage as part of our extensive support for infertility treatments." It further added,"We want to empower women at Apple to do the best work of their lives as they care for loved ones and raise their families."
According to media reports,Facebook recently began the program, making it one of the major employers in the technology sector to do so.
Egg freezing is particularly popular among women who want to have children later in their lives or for those who undergo medical treatments such as cancer that interfere with child-bearing.
The procedure costs o $10,000, with an additional $500 for storage each year.
Recently, companies in the Silicon Valley, in a bid to save talent resources, have started providing new family-planning perks. Apple, for instance also reimburses expenses for legal adoption of a child.
