According to Captain Daryl Truty of the North Tonawanda Police Department, the victims of this heartbreaking accident were a 6-year-old boy, a 66-year-old woman, and a 69-year-old man. The identities of the deceased had not been disclosed to the public by Sunday morning following the accident. In a statement released by Amtrak spokesperson Olivia Irvin, it was noted that none of the Amtrak crew or the 21 passengers aboard the train sustained injuries during the collision.

The severity of the crash necessitated the use of heavy equipment to access the victims within the severely damaged pickup truck, as reported by the North Tonawanda firefighters union. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Further specifics regarding the precise location of the vehicle at the time of impact have yet to be released.

Local media outlets, including WIVB and The Buffalo News, citing eyewitness accounts, suggested that the pickup truck had become ensnared between railroad gates at a crossing. Prior to the collision, there was reportedly a disabled vehicle and police vehicles near the crossing. Efforts to obtain comments from North Tonawanda police and mayoral officials were underway as of Sunday.
