Algerian plane loses contact 50 minutes after take-off

Algiers, July 24: Swifair, a Spanish private airline company said on Thursday that it had lost contact with one of its airplane operated by Air Algerie,

's national carrier. Over 100 passengers and six crew members are on board of the

that took off from Ougaoudougou in Burkina Faso for Algiers, the capital of Algeria.

The MD-83 plane took off at 0117 local time and was supposed to reach its destination at 0510 local time. But it reportedly lost control 50 minutes after taking off.

An Algerian official had earlier informed the missing Air Algerie plane was an Airbus A320.

A Malaysian aeroplane MH370 disappeared on March 8 after taking off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing less than an hour after take-off. It was never found again despite launching a massive search operation by several nations.
