Albania Positioned as a Trustworthy Strategic Partner for India in the Balkan Region
Albania is positioning itself as a reliable strategic ally for India in the Balkan region of Europe. Blendi Gonxhja, Albania's Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, emphasised the importance of forming wise alliances in today's global political climate. He suggested that India should consider Albania's geopolitical and diplomatic significance.

Gonxhja highlighted Albania's efforts towards joining the European Union and expressed readiness to be a dependable partner for any nation. "We have done a lot of our homework to be a proud partner of any country. Now, it depends on the Indian government. When they seek good friends, we are best of friends. We are the people that India can trust," he stated in an interview.
Potential for Collaboration
The minister noted the potential for increased collaboration between India and Albania in sectors such as business, culture, and tourism. He mentioned that Albania offers significant opportunities for businesses with attractive tax incentives. "We have enormous opportunities here for businesses that would have the best incentives in terms of tax deductions and other incentives," Gonxhja said.
He also pointed out that Albania could serve as a gateway to Europe for Indian businesses. "Indian companies can have a base here in Europe and the Balkans," he added, highlighting Albania's strategic position as a corridor for goods to Europe.
Tourism and Cultural Exchange
Gonxhja suggested that Albania could become an appealing destination for Indian tourists and filmmakers, offering an alternative to Switzerland with its stunning landscapes and year-round attractions. "Albania's landscapes range from rugged snow-capped Albanian Alps and mountains to fertile lowland plains," he noted.
The minister expressed interest in attracting investments related to nature, tourism, and adventure experiences. Despite its small population, Albania has the potential to draw millions of tourists annually. He stressed the need for investors who respect Albanian culture and values, similar to India's approach.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
To enhance bilateral cooperation, Gonxhja proposed easing visa regulations to facilitate travel between the two countries. "We need to make it easier for the right people to come whenever they want to be in Albania," he stated.
He also mentioned plans to encourage high-level visits and business interactions between India and Albania to explore mutual opportunities further. "We also hope to facilitate high-level visits and business interactions between India and Albania to strengthen ties and explore mutual opportunities," Gonxhja said.
In light of global developments, Gonxhja believes it's crucial for India to consider Albania as a strategic partner in Europe. He expressed optimism about forming strong ties between the two nations soon, stating, "It's the time of wise friendships and alliances."
