Afghanistan Rejects Pakistan's Claims Of India's Role In Recent Conflict

Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, Afghanistan's Defence Minister, rejects Pakistan's allegations linking India to unrest. He reaffirms Afghanistan's independent foreign policy and commitment to fostering ties with India while advocating for mutual respect with Pakistan.

Afghanistan's Defence Minister, Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, has firmly rejected Pakistan's allegations linking India to regional unrest. He labelled these accusations as "baseless, irrational, and unacceptable." Mujahid emphasised that Afghanistan manages its foreign relations independently and plans to strengthen ties with India based on its national interests.

"These charges lack foundation. Our policy will never permit our territory to be used against other nations. We engage with India as a sovereign country and will bolster those connections within our national interest framework," Mujahid told Al Jazeera.

Mujahid also addressed the relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, highlighting Kabul's intention to foster ties with Islamabad through mutual respect and trade development. "Afghanistan and Pakistan are neighbouring nations. Discord between them benefits no one. Their relationship must be built on mutual respect and neighbourly principles," he stated.

Afghanistan-Pakistan Relations

The Defence Minister discussed the Doha agreement, noting an upcoming meeting in Turkey focused on its implementation and monitoring. He warned that Pakistan's non-compliance could lead to challenges and urged mediating countries like Turkey and Qatar to ensure adherence. Mujahid also clarified Afghanistan's stance against supporting armed groups against any country, including Pakistan, while asserting that Afghans will "courageously" defend their nation if attacked.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been strained since the withdrawal of US-led forces and the Taliban's return to power. Recent border skirmishes have resulted in numerous casualties and significant damage.

Mujahid's statements underscore Afghanistan's commitment to maintaining sovereignty in its international dealings and fostering peaceful relations with neighbouring countries. The emphasis on cooperation with India and a balanced approach towards Pakistan reflects Kabul's strategic priorities in the region.
