Aeromexico Achieves Highest On-Time Arrival Rate Among Airlines in 2024 Rankings
According to a recent annual ranking, Aeromexico was the top airline for on-time arrivals in 2024. Nearly 87% of its flights landed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, as reported by aviation-data provider Cirium. This measure is widely used to assess airlines' punctuality. Saudia, Saudi Arabia's national carrier, followed closely with an on-time rate of just over 86%.

Delta Air Lines emerged as the leading US airline for punctuality, securing third place globally with an on-time rate exceeding 83%. Despite a significant computer outage in July that led to numerous flight cancellations, Delta maintained its strong performance. United Airlines and Alaska Airlines were the next best US carriers, achieving nearly 81% and just over 79% on-time rates, respectively.
Global Airline Rankings and Regional Leaders
Cirium's report also highlighted other regional leaders. Japan Airlines, Iberia Express from Spain, Panama's Copa Airlines, and South Africa's FlySafair were recognised for their punctuality. These airlines demonstrated strong performance in their respective regions, contributing to the overall global rankings.
In North America, Canadian airlines WestJet and Air Canada, along with Denver-based Frontier Airlines, ranked lowest among US and Canadian carriers. Their on-time performance ratings fell below 72%, indicating room for improvement in punctuality.
Top Airports for On-Time Departures
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was named the best airport for on-time departures in 2024. Approximately 87% of flights departed within 15 minutes of their scheduled times. Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima and Mexico City's Benito Juárez International Airport followed closely with departure rates exceeding 84%.
Cirium has been evaluating airline timeliness for 16 years. CEO Jeremy Bowen noted that 2024 posed challenges due to severe weather and technological disruptions. Despite these hurdles, Bowen praised the winning airlines for ensuring most passengers reached their destinations punctually.
Delta's position as the top US airline was notable given the July outage caused by a faulty upgrade from cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike to Microsoft computers worldwide. Delta filed a lawsuit against CrowdStrike, alleging losses of USD 500 million due to the incident. CrowdStrike defended itself by highlighting that other airlines recovered more swiftly from the outage.
The rankings underscore the importance of operational efficiency in the aviation industry. Airlines strive to maintain high standards despite challenges like weather disruptions and technical issues. The recognition of top performers reflects their commitment to delivering reliable service to passengers globally.
