$45 Million Monthly Donations To Trump Campaign: Is Elon Musk Really Contributing? Details Inside!
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has clarified that he is not donating $45 million a month to support Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Musk refuted a report by The Wall Street Journal that claimed he would commit this substantial amount to a political action committee (PAC) dedicated to Trump's election.
In an interview on X, formerly known as Twitter, with conservative philosopher Jordan Peterson, Musk addressed the media reports. "What's been reported in the media is simply not true," he stated.

However, Musk reiterated his support for Trump, praising the former president for his "great courage" in surviving an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. Musk endorsed Trump following the attack, as reported by The Guardian. Although Musk confirmed he was not donating $45 million monthly, he revealed the establishment of The America PAC. This legal entity can receive funding to support political campaigns, which is different from direct donations to candidates.
During Tesla's earnings call on Tuesday, Musk discussed the potential impact of Trump's policies on the electric vehicle (EV) industry. He downplayed concerns about Trump revoking the Inflation Reduction Act, which provides up to $7,500 in tax credits per EV. Musk suggested that while such a move would slightly impact Tesla, it would be more devastating for its competitors and could ultimately benefit Tesla in the long term. "The value of Tesla overwhelmingly lies in its autonomy. These other issues are minor in comparison," Musk asserted.
Musk's endorsement of Trump has caused some confusion among Tesla fans, given Trump's critical stance on the Biden administration's EV policies, as reported by Hindustan Times. Trump has promised to "end the electric vehicle mandate" if elected but has not provided detailed plans.
Furthermore, Musk commented on Trump's proposal to impose tariffs of 100% to 200% on cars made in Mexico, which would render them "unsellable" in the U.S. As a result, Tesla has paused plans for a new plant in Mexico and will reassess the investment after the presidential election. Instead, Tesla is focusing on increasing capacity at its existing factories and plans to produce robotaxis at its Texas facility, as per media reports.
Musk also reiterated his stance on subsidies, stating, "Take away the subsidies. It will only help Tesla. Also, remove subsidies from all industries!" Musk's political donations and endorsements continue to be a topic of interest, especially as the 2024 presidential election approaches.
