41-Year-Old Indian-Origin Dies In US After Being Hit In Head During Argument

A 41-year-old Indian-origin man died in the United States after he was allegedly hit on his head during an altercation outside a restaurant in downtown Washington, according to a police report. According to a police report, the incident happened at nearly 2 am (US local time) on February 2, making it the fifth case of an Indian American killed in the US this year.

The man was identified as Vivek Chander Taneja, who worked as an executive in Virginia.

Police officers were called to the scene following reports of an assault and discovered Taneja with critical injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The police have classified Taneja's death as a homicide.

While no arrests have been made thus far, a suspect was captured on CCTV footage. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is urging the public to assist in identifying and locating the individual responsible for Taneja's death.

According to police reports, Taneja and another individual engaged in an altercation after both had been present at Shoto Restaurant on 15th Street NW, two affiliated Japanese restaurants located within the Midtown Center building. This building, standing 14 stories tall, houses various offices, dining establishments, and shops at the intersection of 15th and L streets NW, with its entrance situated along L Street.

The report details that Taneja, accompanied by two companions, exited the restaurants around 2 a.m. and found themselves on 15th Street. An argument escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in Taneja being knocked to the ground by the assailant and striking his head on the pavement.

Authorities disclosed that Taneja lost consciousness and was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he passed away five days later. The report omits whether Taneja and the unidentified individual encountered each other within the restaurant, nor does it elaborate on the nature of the disagreement.

He resided in Alexandria, the police report indicates his residency as Fairfax County. Taneja served as the co-founder and president of Dynamo Technologies, an intellectual technology company, according to a company spokesperson.

Meanwile, Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspect(s) involved in each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Tragically, several other individuals of Indian origin have lost their lives in the US this year, with many of them being students. One such victim was Vivek Saini, an MBA student in Lithonia, Georgia, who was brutally attacked and killed by a homeless man named Julian Faulkner. This heart-wrenching incident was captured on camera.
