37 foreigners held in Bangladesh

, Dec 23: As many as 39 people, including five from Chinese mainland and 32 from

, were arrested here Sunday night for operating illegal Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also known as call bypass.

According to Bangladesh's anti-crime elite force, acting on tip-off, the security personnel recovered VoIP instruments worth about 10 million taka(about $130,000) from the possession of the arrestees who rented a six-storey building, Xinhua reported.

"RAB personnel raided the building and arrested two Bangladeshis, five Chinese citizens and 32 Taiwanese men from capital Dhaka's Uttara area Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. (local time) ," said Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) spokesperson A.T.M Habibur Rahman.

He said the arrestees, engaged in illegal VoIP operation for over one-and-a-half-year, would be handed over to the police.
