Thirty Terrorists Neutralised in Recent Counter-Terrorism Operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
In a series of counter-terrorism operations on Saturday, the Pakistani military reported the elimination of 30 terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. These operations took place in the districts of Lakki Marwat, Karak, and Khyber. The military confirmed that 18 terrorists were neutralised in Lakki Marwat, while eight were killed in Karak. Additionally, six terrorists were injured during the Lakki Marwat operation.

In the Bagh area of Khyber district, security forces successfully targeted four terrorists, including key figures Aziz ur Rehman, also known as Qari Ismail, and Mukhlis. Two more terrorists sustained injuries during this encounter. The operations also resulted in the recovery of weapons and ammunition, according to a military statement.
Security Forces' Efforts Praised
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for their effective actions in these districts. President Zardari described the elimination of 30 terrorists as a notable success and reiterated that operations will persist until terrorism is fully eradicated. Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed unwavering national support for the security forces, emphasising Pakistan's commitment to combating all forms of terrorism.
Pakistan has intensified intelligence-based operations against Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) recently. This group has gained confidence since the Afghan Taliban took control in Afghanistan in 2021. Although separate from the Afghan Taliban, TTP maintains close ties with them.
Rising Violence and Casualties
The year 2024 was particularly deadly for Pakistan's civil and military security forces, with at least 685 fatalities and 444 terror attacks reported. According to the "CRSS Annual Security Report 2024" by the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies, civilian and security personnel losses totalled 1,612 fatalities, accounting for over 63% of the year's total.
This marked a significant increase of 73% compared to the 934 outlaws eliminated. Overall fatalities reached a nine-year high in 2024, exceeding those in 2023 by over 66%. On average, nearly seven people died daily throughout the year, with November being particularly deadly across all metrics.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A Region Under Siege
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suffered the most human losses with 1,616 fatalities, followed by Balochistan with 782 fatalities. In total, Pakistan experienced 2,546 violence-related deaths and 2,267 injuries among civilians, security personnel, and outlaws in 2024.
This grim tally resulted from 1,166 incidents involving terror attacks and counter-terror operations. The statistics underscore a challenging year for Pakistan's security landscape.
