22 soldiers killed in ISIS’s double suicide attack in Iraq

Baghdad, July 22: At least 22 soldiers were killed and 24 others sustained injuries on Wednesday in a double suicide attack in Iraq, media reported.

Islamic State (ISIS) militants carried out the attack in Fallujah. Both blasts targeted a congregation of Iraqi army soldiers and fighters, reported Al-Jazeera.

The latest attack is part of ongoing violence between government forces and ISIS militants.

According to reports, an air strike carried out by Iraq's air force in Fallujah that left 17 ISIS militants dead.

At least 19 people were killed in two car bombings in capital city of Baghdad on Tuesday. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blasts.

A huge suicide car bomb attack claimed by the Islamic State group killed dozens of people in Khan Bani Saad, a town just north of Baghdad, on July 18 while another blast was also carried out by the group on July 12 that left 23 people dead.

The security situation in Iraq has drastically deteriorated since June 2014, when clashes broke out between Iraqi security forces and ISIS militants.
