2010-Built Plane Crashed Near São Paulo, Purchased By Airline In 2022
A passenger plane crashed in a fiery wreck in a residential area of Brazil's São Paulo state on Friday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of all 62 people on board. The crash occurred shortly after harrowing footage showed the aircraft spiraling uncontrollably.

The twin-engine turboprop, operated by Voepass, was en route to São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport with 58 passengers and four crew members when it went down in Vinhedo. Local authorities confirmed there were no survivors among those on the plane, but no injuries were reported on the ground, according to the BBC.
GloboNews broadcasted dramatic footage showing the plane listing and descending erratically before it spiraled and crashed behind a cluster of trees, briefly obscured from view.
According to reports, the crashed Voepass Linhas Aéreas flight, an ATR 72-500 model, was manufactured in 2010 and acquired by the airline in September 2022, as per the Brazilian Aeronautical Registry. The aircraft, which can accommodate 68 passengers and features 73 seats, requires at least two crew members for operation. The registration also notes that the aircraft was "denied operation for air taxi," although the reasons for this decision are not yet clear.
ATR, the plane's manufacturer, has acknowledged the accident and is assisting with the investigation. In a statement, ATR expressed their condolences and confirmed their commitment to supporting the investigation and the airline.
