11 trapped in flooded China coal mine

Beijing, April 25: Eleven miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine on Monday in the northern Chinese province of Shaanxi, one of the main coal production centres in the country.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. in the Zhaojin coal mine in the city of Tongchuan, while 67 miners were working inside the shaft, Xinhua news agency reported.

Fifty-six workers escaped the flooded mine.

Rescue operations are underway.
