Karnataka elections: History and significance of JD (S)

JD (S) has a strong support of Vokkaliga community.

Janata Dal (Secular) is a regional party in Karnataka that has time and again played a significant role in the state politics. Led by former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, the JD (S) has in most elections been able to pocket enough seats to play a 'kingmaker' role in Karnataka. It was formed in July 1999 by the split of Janata Dal party. It has a political presence mainly in Karnataka.
