Zakir Naik’s extradition request soon says India

In India, the Enforcement Directorate and the National Investigation Agency have filed chargesheets against the radical Islamic preacher.

Just a few days after Malaysia assured India of support in the Zakir Naik case, the Ministry for External Affairs said that a request for custody would be sent out soon.

The internal legal process was nearly complete and the request would be sent to Malaysia soon, where the radical Islamic preacher is residing.

Earlier this week, Malaysia had said that it is yet to receive any formal request, but will continue to monitor the activities of Islamic preacher, Zakir Naik, Malaysia has said. This was stated in a written statement by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said that he is yet to receive any formal request from India, but will help if the same is made. He further said the country would continue to monitor the activities of Naik and will also act if found to be involved in acts of terrorism.

If Indian requests for help, we will give it. It is not about surrendering him, but about investigations, he also said. He is not a Malaysian citizen, but has a permanent resident visa for Malaysia, since the past five hears, he said in his statement to parliament.
