Your old Rs 500 note will be invalid at these outlets effective Dec 2 midnight
Effective December 2 midnight, petrol, diesel and gas outlets will be removed from the exempt category for receipt of old Rs 500 notes.
With effect from midnight of December 2 several outlets will be removed from the exempt category of the old Rs 500 notes. The Union Finance Ministry took to its Twitter handle to make the announcement.
Effective December 2 midnight, petrol, diesel and gas outlets will be removed from the exempt category for receipt of old Rs 500 notes. The ministry also clarified that the supply of LPG continues to be in the exempted category for payment through old Rs 500 notes.

The ministry said that the old Rs 500 notes cannot be used for purchase of air tickets at airports. The tweet read, with effect from midnight of December 2, purchase of air tickets at airports through old rs 500 notes will be removed from the exempted category. Other exempted categories that have been earlier notified will continue to accept old Rs 500 notes as per the said notification.
The ministry states that the removal of these categories from the exemption is in view of increasing the cash flow and digital transactions across different sectors.
