Yogi should focus on work instead of taking jibes at Rahul-Akhilesh: Congress

JD-U leader Ajay Alok said that Adityanath should be 'polite and courteous' after assuming the top post.

Taking a strong exception to Yogi Adityanath's remark that he sneaked between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav to topple their alliance, the Congress on Wednesday said the Uttar Pradesh chief minister should focus on work instead of targeting the opposition.

Congress leader P L Punia told ANI that Adityanath should focus on fulfilling expectations of the people as it is immaterial to compare his age with that of Rahul and Akhilesh.

Another Congress leader Pramod Tiwari told ANI that Adityanath was not even the face of BJP's election campaign in Uttar Pradesh, so how can he make such claims.

JD-U leader Ajay Alok said that Adityanath should be 'polite and courteous' after assuming the top post.

In what was his last address at the Lok Sabha, Adityanath on Tuesday mocked the Congress and the Samajwadi Party alliance in the state. Adityanath said he sneaked between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav to topple their tie up.

Adityanath, who dedicated much of his speech in praising the prime minister, branded Modi as an icon. He said that Modi worked for the betterment of the poor and the farmers without any discrimination.

He slammed the former SP-led government in Uttar Pradesh for not utilising the funds allocated for the state for development.

"My government will be for everyone, not specifically for any caste or community," he said.

On Tuesday morning, Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and BJP chief Amit Shah. He took oath as UP CM on Sunday, days after BJP won 325 out of 403 seats in the politically most significant state in India.
