Yogi Adityanath Hits Back At Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘Palestine’ Bag, Highlights UP’s Israel Ties
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has hit out at Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over her recent choice of fashion - a bag emblazoned with the word 'Palestine'.
Gandhi's gesture was seen as a statement of solidarity with Palestine, amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, as reported by Hindustan Times.

On Tuesday, Adityanath addressed the issue during a session in the Uttar Pradesh state assembly, criticizing Gandhi for displaying her support for Palestine while simultaneously ignoring the robust engagement between Uttar Pradesh and Israel. "A Congress leader was seen carrying a bag with 'Palestine' written on it, while we are sending over 5,600 youth from Uttar Pradesh to Israel for construction work," he said.
Uttar Pradesh's Strong Relationship with Israel
Adityanath further emphasized the positive impact of this collaboration, highlighting that the youth of Uttar Pradesh benefit from opportunities in Israel, including free accommodation, meals, and a monthly salary of ₹1.5 lakh. "This partnership not only provides employment but ensures the safety and welfare of our youth working there," he added.
His comments pointed to the growing ties between Israel and Uttar Pradesh, with many young people from the state engaged in construction work in Israel. This outreach, according to Adityanath, stands in stark contrast to Gandhi's symbolic gesture, which he suggested overlooked the pragmatic cooperation between the two nations, as per media reports.
Priyanka Gandhi Responds: A Stance for Women's Empowerment
The response from Priyanka Gandhi came swiftly. Refuting the criticism of her 'Palestine' bag, she turned the tables, accusing the BJP of targeting her for simply expressing her views. "Who is going to decide what I should wear? This is typical patriarchy, deciding what a woman should wear," she stated, defending her personal choice.
In her defence, Gandhi also remarked on the atrocities against minorities and Hindus in Bangladesh, highlighting the need for action. "The atrocities happening in Bangladesh should not go unnoticed. Talks should be held with the Bangladesh government about these issues," she said, stressing that such concerns must also be addressed, as per media reports.
India's Neutral Stance on the Israel-Palestine Conflict
Amid this political uproar, India's official stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict remains balanced. While the Indian government has strongly condemned the October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel and the loss of civilian lives, it continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution. India's consistent support for a two-state solution underscores its commitment to a peaceful and secure coexistence between Israel and Palestine.
The debate over Priyanka Gandhi's 'Palestine' bag serves as a reminder of the complex dynamics surrounding international relations and domestic politics. It also highlights the intersection of personal expressions of support and the broader national interests in diplomacy, as per media report.
As the political discourse continues to unfold, it remains clear that leaders across party lines are using symbols and statements to make their own marks, with each gesture opening up new avenues for debate in the public sphere.
