Ministry of Culture to Mark Yoga Day at Historic Purana Quila in Delhi
The Ministry of Culture is set to commemorate the International Day of Yoga (IDY) with a significant event at Delhi's historic Purana Quila on Friday, as per official sources. This annual celebration, taking place on June 21, aims to enhance awareness about yoga's extensive benefits in promoting health and well-being. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is poised to spearhead the festivities at the Sun Dial Lawns, Qutab Minar, marking his recent assumption of responsibilities within these ministries.

In collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Ministry of Culture will host the IDY at Purana Quila, an iconic landmark known for its rich historical significance. Govind Mohan, Secretary of the Union Culture Ministry, is expected to attend the event, highlighting its importance. Approximately 500 participants, including NCC cadets, paramilitary personnel, and officials from the Ministry of Culture, ASI, and National Monument Authority (NMA), are anticipated to join the celebration at this ancient fortification.
Purana Quila, a testament to India's storied past, was constructed by Sher Shah Suri and Mughal emperor Humayun. It occupies a site that encapsulates thousands of years of history, making it a fitting venue for celebrating an event that connects cultural heritage with holistic health practices. The ASI and NMA, both integral to the Ministry of Culture, play crucial roles in preserving India's monumental legacy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead the nation in observing IDY on June 21. He will participate in an event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), located on the picturesque banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar. This nationwide observance underscores the importance of yoga in enhancing physical and mental well-being among Indians and people around the world.
The International Day of Yoga serves as a platform to highlight yoga's role in nurturing a balanced lifestyle and promoting overall health. Through such events at historical sites like Purana Quila and across various locations in India, the Ministry of Culture aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of yoga's invaluable contributions to society.
