Year Ender 2024: Key CBSE Announcements That Will Transform Education Next Year
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has rolled out a series of groundbreaking changes in 2024, aimed at improving exam integrity, enhancing student learning outcomes, and boosting operational efficiency.
From stricter attendance rules to competency-based exams, CBSE's updates promise to redefine India's education system in 2025.

Here's a comprehensive look at the major developments:
1. Competency-Based Questions for Class 10 & 12 Exams
Starting 2025, CBSE has revamped its board exam pattern by increasing the weightage of competency-based questions for Class 10 and 12 students. This shift aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on practical application over rote learning. These questions will test students' real-world problem-solving abilities, ensuring a more holistic evaluation of knowledge and skills.
2. Hi-Tech Security Measures for Board Exams
To ensure cheating-free examinations, CBSE will introduce biometric verification across 1,200+ exam centers in 2025. Key features include:
- Digital fingerprinting
- Photograph matching
- Facial recognition technology
- This Rs 20-crore initiative will not only prevent impersonation but also enhance exam credibility.
3. 75% Attendance Now Mandatory
CBSE has made 75% attendance a non-negotiable criterion for students appearing in the Class 10 and 12 board exams. Exceptions will be granted only in special circumstances, such as:
- Medical emergencies
- Participation in national/international events
- Other justified reasons (with proper documentation)
- Students falling below the threshold risk being barred from exams.
4. CCTV Surveillance in Exam Halls
To further ensure fairness, CBSE now requires all board exam centers to install CCTV cameras with clear specifications for placement and coverage. Around 8,000 schools will serve as exam centers in 2025, hosting over 44 lakh students. This measure enhances transparency, prevents malpractice, and reassures students of a secure testing environment.
5. CBSE's Global Expansion: New Office in Dubai
In a first, CBSE launched its Regional Office (RO) and Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Dubai, marking its global expansion. Operational since July 2024, the office will oversee CBSE-affiliated schools in the UAE, benefitting thousands of Indian expatriate students. Announced by PM Narendra Modi during his UAE visit, this step highlights India's growing educational outreach worldwide.
6. Sub-Regional Office Opens in Tripura
Responding to concerns over Tripura's CBSE-affiliated schools' performance, the board set up a new sub-regional office in Agartala. This move is expected to streamline administrative processes and bolster education quality in northeastern India.
7. Board Exams 2025: Dates Announced
The Class 10 and 12 board exams for 2025 will begin on February 15:
- Class 10 exams end on March 18
- Class 12 exams conclude on April 4
- The exams, held across India and in 26 countries, will accommodate a record 44 lakh students.
CBSE's Vision for the Future
These measures reflect CBSE's commitment to modernizing India's education system, fostering transparency, and aligning learning outcomes with global standards. By introducing tech-driven security, competency-based learning, and stricter norms, CBSE aims to prepare students for a dynamic future while maintaining fairness and accountability.
As we step into 2025, these changes will mark a new chapter for millions of students, ensuring a blend of academic excellence and practical skill development.
