As we bid farewell to 2023, it's impossible to ignore the dark underbelly of the year, marked by a series of horrific crimes that sent shivers down spines and shook the nation's conscience. Let's revisit some of these chilling cases, remembering the victims and the impact they left on our collective memory:

Kanjhawala Murder: A young woman, Anjali Singh, met a tragic end in the early hours of New Year's Day in Delhi. Dragged for kilometers under a car, her death exposed the dangers women face and sparked outrage against reckless driving and lack of accountability.
Nikki Yadav Murder: Love turned into a horrifying nightmare for Nikki Yadav, a student from Delhi. On February 10, 2023, Nikki Yadav was found deceased in a restaurant owned by her boyfriend, Sahil Gehlot. Police investigations revealed evidence leading to Gehlot's arrest and the inclusion of several other family members in the investigation.
Umesh Pal Murder: February 24, 2023, saw the tragic killing of lawyer Umesh Pal, a crucial witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal. The attack, which took place outside Pal's residence in Prayagraj, also claimed the lives of two police gunners. While some of the accused individuals have been apprehended, others remain at large.
Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed Murder: A somber event occurred on April 15, 2023, when Atique Ahmed and his brother, Ashraf Ahmed, were killed while being transported for a medical checkup in Prayagraj while in police custody. Both individuals faced numerous criminal charges, and Atique Ahmed had previously served as an MLA and MP. The three individuals accused in this case were apprehended immediately.
Sarswati Vaidya Murder: In Mumbai, the chilling details of how a live-in partner turned into a murderer, dismembering his partner's body and attempting to dispose of the evidence, left a lasting sense of horror. On June 7, 2023, when a 36-year-old woman residing in Mumbai's Mira Road was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner, Manoj Sane. Police reports indicate that Sane dismembered the body and attempted to dispose of the evidence by boiling the remains. He was apprehended at the scene of the crime.
Murder in Courtroom: Sanjeev Jeeva, a prominent figure in the criminal underworld, was fatally shot inside a Lucknow courtroom on June 7th, 2023. The murderer, identified as Vijay Yadav, entered the court disguised as a lawyer and opened fire on Jeeva in the presence of the judge and court personnel.
Sana Khan Murder: Sana Khan, a resident of Nagpur, was murdered by her husband after he hit her with a stick in his house and later dumped her body in a river in the district, police said, adding the body was yet to be recovered. On 2 August, Sana reportedly arrived in Jabalpur from Nagpur, and following that she went missing. Nagpur police said that Sana was the Bharatiya Janata Party's minority cell functionary in the eastern Maharashtra city. Police claim both Sana and Amit had been having a long-standing dispute over money. Adding more, the police added that when Sana came from Nagpur to Jabalpur to meet Amit, they had a heated argument and Amit then hit Sana Khan on the head.
