Yamuna Expressway Accident: Speeding Truck Hits Passengers Near Halted Bus, Six Dead

Mathura, Uttar Pradesh: A routine night journey on the Yamuna Expressway turned deadly in the early hours of Saturday when a speeding truck ran over passengers standing beside a halted sleeper bus, killing six people and leaving one critically injured.

The incident unfolded around 2.45 am near milestone 88, within the limits of Surir Police Station. The sleeper bus, travelling from Delhi to Kanpur, had stopped briefly on the high-speed stretch when disaster struck. A truck approaching at speed reportedly went out of control and ploughed into people gathered near the roadside.

In the darkness, screams and chaos followed as passengers tried to understand what had happened. Police teams reached the spot shortly after receiving the alert and began rescue operations under low-light conditions. One injured passenger, Amar Dubey, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Officials later confirmed that six people died on the spot. Four of the deceased have been identified as Sonu from Auraiya, Devesh from Basti, Aslam from Kannauj, and Santosh from Prem Nagar in Delhi. Police are in the process of confirming the identities of the remaining victims and informing their families.

Yamuna Expressway Accident FIR Registered

An FIR has been registered, and investigators are examining multiple factors behind the crash. Authorities are checking whether the truck was overspeeding, if the driver was drowsy, and whether standard safety precautions were followed when the bus halted on the expressway.

"This happened around 3 am when the bus had stopped on the expressway. A truck ran over the passengers, killing six and injuring one. We have contacted the families and started a detailed probe," a police officer said.

The tragedy comes close on the heels of another serious incident on the same stretch of the Yamuna Expressway. On January 22, a double-decker bus travelling from Banda to Delhi caught fire near milestone 110 after a brake failure, though all passengers escaped safely.

With two major incidents reported within weeks, questions are once again being raised about night-time travel, driver alertness, and safety enforcement on one of Uttar Pradesh's busiest expressways.
