The capital city, Delhi, grappled with severely impaired visibility in the early hours of Wednesday as dense fog blanketed various areas. The minimum temperature recorded was 7.8 degrees Celsius, slightly above the normal range.

At 8 am, the Met department issued an orange alert across the city due to persistent low visibility, hovering around 50 meters in many parts.

Transport systems, including trains and flights, experienced delays and potential cancellations due to the foggy conditions, as indicated by an official statement. IMD's color-coded alerts indicated different levels of preparedness: yellow for caution, orange for readiness, and red for heightened vigilance and action.

As of 5:30 am, Delhi's primary weather stations recorded visibility at 50 meters in Safdarjung and 125 meters in Palam.

Around 25 trains bound for Delhi's railway stations faced delays due to the fog, though conditions were expected to improve post 11 am, as suggested by a Skymet weather agency official.

"Delhi NCR is shrouded in very dense fog. Visibility is nearly zero in many places. Palam reported 50 meters visibility at 07:30 hours. Drive cautiously and be careful. Improvement anticipated after 11 am," noted Skymet official Mahesh Palawat in a communication.

"Expect possible flight delays and cancellations. Dense fog will affect rail, road, and air traffic today across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, and north Rajasthan," further warned Palawat in another update.
