Yakub Memon's autopsy complete, to be buried in Mumbai

New Delhi, July 30: The body of Yakub Memon will be brought to Mumbai where the funeral would take place.

The Nagpur jail authorities have confirmed that the autopsy has been completed on Yakub Memon and the family will be given the body at 11 AM.

The funeral is expected to be held at the Marine Lines Muslim Cemetry. Security has been increased at the cemetery where is likely to be burried.

Police prepare for funeral:

The Mumbai police is gearing up to ensure that there are no untoward incidents during the funeral. The family had requested the jail authorities to hand over the body to them so that it could be buried at the Marine Lines Muslim Cemetry where his father too was laid to rest.

The body is expected to be first taken to his residence in Mahim and then to the cemetery. Security has been deployed all along the route to ensure that nothing untoward happens. The police has been gathering information from the cemetery. All details regarding the grave-diggers which includes their identification details has been already collected by the Mumbai police.

Jail authorities were in a dilemma:

The jail authorities were initially in a dilemma whether to hand over the body to the family or not. They were skeptical that a public display may be made out of the funeral. At first the authorities had told the family that the funeral will be conducted inside the jail as is done normally in the case of other death row convicts.

However the family members have assured that there would be no public display. Further the jail authorities also had to take into consideration the law and order situation. The police have assured that there will be no law and order problem and security arrangements are in place.
