Wrestlers Meet Amit Shah, Demand Probe Against Brij Bhushan

A delegation of wrestlers, who have been protesting against Wrestling Federation of India Chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, met Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday.

The meeting attended by Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshee Malikkh, Sangita Phogat and Satyawart Kadian at Amit Shah's residence began at 11 pm and lasted for more than two hours.

Reportedly, the protesting wrestlers pressed for an early chargesheet against Brij Bhushan, who is also a BJP MP.

"They shared their concern with the Home Minister. The meeting was long and he listened to everything. But no decision has been reached so far," a source close to the wrestlers told IANS.

Two FIR filed against him said Brij Bhushan Singh allegedly groped women athletes, asked inappropriate personal questions, demanded sexual favors to back their careers, brushed his hands across a minor's breast, and stalked her.

However, Singh has refuted all allegations of sexual misconduct.

"If a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself. If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, present it to the Court, and I am ready to accept any punishment," he said.

Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, who have been demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Birj Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual exploitation of women wrestlers, took their protest to Haridwar on May 30 but did not carry out the threat of immersing their medals into holy river Ganga.

On May 28, the Delhi Police had detained the wrestlers for violation of law and order when they marched towards the new Parliament building without permission.

The Police also cleared the protest site and made it clear that the wrestlers will not be allowed back at Jantar Mantar.
