A controversy has erupted over women walking ramp wearing 'burqa' at a college event in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar.
The incident occurred at the Sriram Group of Colleges in Uttar Pradesh as part of 'Fashion Splash 2023', according to a report in the IANS.

Muqarram Qazmi, the district convenor of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind in Muzaffarnagar, has voiced his disapproval, asserting that such actions were meant to deliberately provoke and offend the sentiments of the Muslim community.
A total of 13 students from the fashion designing course participated in a fashion show, showcasing 'Burqa and Hijab' on the ramp. Celebrity judges, include Bollywood actress Mandakini and TV actress Radhika Gautam.
Although the audience hailed the the innovative approach, some Muslim clerics, criticised the use of the 'burqa' in a fashion show.
Maulana Nazar, the State Vice-President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, recognized the parental encouragement reflected in the audience's applause for their daughters' performances in 'burqa'.
On the contrary, Maulana Zulfikar, the State President of the Imam Association, downplayed the controversy, emphasizing that the fashion show was an educational initiative unrelated to religious sentiments.
Meanwhile, Manoj Dheeman, the Director of Sriram College's Art department, upheld the students' creativity, emphasizing that the aim was to highlight the versatility of fashion. He urged observers not to associate the efforts with religious connotations.
