Women's hair cut short for stealing gold chain

Firozabad (UP), Jun 19: A group of villagers here allegedly cut short the hair of some women after claiming to have caught them stealing a gold chain in Narkhi area, police said today.

Superintendent of Police Ajay Mohan Sharma said that in Nagla Sikander village some women were caught stealing gold chain during "bhagwat katha". The women were nabbed by the villagers, who in turn cut short their hair, as punishment.

A case has been registered against the villagers for taking law in their hand and punishing the women instead of informing the police, he said. A case of theft has also been lodged against the women, Sharma said adding, police is further investigating the issue.
