Woman Swept Away In Ganga While Filming Social Media Video In Uttarkashi

A shocking incident has gone viral on social media. A young woman was swept away by the strong current of the Ganga river while reportedly shooting a video for social media. The incident happened on April 15 near Manikarnika Ghat in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

The viral video is 16 seconds long. It shows the woman standing in the river, posing in front of the camera. The current is strong, and she does not appear to have any support. Suddenly, she loses her balance and is swept away by the water. In the background, a child's voice is heard shouting, "Mummy! Mummy!" The video ends soon after.

The clip was shared on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on April 16. It has received over 105.2 k views so far. Many users have expressed shock and anger, blaming the trend of filming risky social media videos for likes and views. One user wrote, "A small kid lost the mother just because of reels. Don't let your wife become mad for social media. It will ruin the childhood of your kids." Another user said, "These days, temples have become places for reels rather than faith."

After being alerted, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police launched a search operation. Sadly, they were unable to find the woman. She is believed to be between 20 and 25 years old.

Authorities are warning locals and tourists to be extra careful near riverbanks. They say people should not risk their lives just to shoot videos. Safety must always come first. The local police and Uttarkashi district administration are still searching for the woman and have urged the public to avoid dangerous spots.
