Woman sets husband on fire for having dark complexion

Bhind (MP), April 25: A 24 year old woman-Chameli-set her husband Jagram Rathod on fire because he had a dark complexion.

The incident took place in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh when she set Rathod ablaze by sprinkling kerosene on him when he was sleeping. Following this, she fled from the spot in the fear of being caught.

Jagram had already succumbed to burns when he was rushed to the hospital by his neighbours. Meanwhile, Jagram's family alleges Chameli took the extreme step as she was embarassed by her husband's very dark complexion and his poverty. She felt that Jagram would not be able to provide her with a luxurious lifestyle.

The couple had two children. When Chameli was arrested and interrogated, she denied her role in the murder but was proved wrong as her husband had named her in his dying statements. Chameli Devi has been booked for murder.
