The male suspect is related to the victim as his cousin. Following their arrest, a local court placed both individuals in judicial custody. The incident came to light during an investigation into the suspicious death of Ayush, the teenager, on February 7. After committing the crime, the accused disposed of the body near a pond behind their residence.

Upon returning home, Ayush's father, Hemant Sah, was misled by his wife Meenu Devi. She concocted a story that Ayush had gone out to use the bathroom and never came back.
