Zafaryab Jilani, secretary of the Board, said that since Rukhsana's three-year term came to an end, the board did not renew her membership.

He also said that AIMPLB had 101 permanent and around 150 term members, who are elected every three years on the recommendation of the permanent members.

When asked whether the team members are replaced every three year, Jilani said the decision on renewal of membership and retaining a particular member was the prerogative of the permanent members.

Meanwhile, Rukhsana who is a former principal of a girls' degree college in Lucknow said that she had not receive termination letter from the Board.

Rukhsana first locked horns with the clergy on triple divorce at a seminar in Lucknow in June 2016. However, she was subsequently not allowed to speak at the press conference after the event. She was even invited to AIMPLB's session in Kolkata in November last year but was not allowed to speak.
