The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the authorities scrambling to locate the fugitive.

Cyber Fraudster Slips Through the Cracks: Daring Escape from Police Custody

The Accused: Saniya Alias Gudiya Alias Sofia Siddique

The accused, identified as Saniya, alias Gudiya, alias Sofia Siddique, was apprehended from her residence in Faridabad, Haryana, on February 17. Following her arrest, an FIR was registered against her in Pune for her alleged involvement in a cyber fraud amounting to Rs 4 crore.

Escape from Custody

A team of Pune police, including one female constable and four male constables, had taken charge of Saniya and was escorting her to Pune via the Duronto Express. However, around 4:10 am on Sunday, the accused managed to free herself from her handcuffs, elude the constables, and flee from custody.

Search and Investigation

The Pune police team realized Saniya's escape when the train reached Ratlam station. They immediately initiated a search for the woman and, based on CCTV footage, tracked her to Kota, Rajasthan. On Monday, a complaint was lodged at the Kota Government Railway Police (GRP) police station regarding the incident.

Efforts to Trace the Fugitive

Manoj Soni, Circle Inspector at the GRP police station in Kota, informed that efforts are underway to trace the whereabouts of Saniya. Initial investigations revealed that she had briefly stayed at a lodge on Mala Road in Kota before disappearing.

The escape of Saniya from police custody has raised serious concerns about the security measures employed during the transportation of arrested individuals. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of the fugitive, and further updates on the case are expected in the coming days.
