Wolf Attacks Continue In UP's Bahraich: 3-Year-Old Killed, Forest Dept. Battles To Contain Threat
Wolf attacks continue unabated in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district despite the Forest Department launching a search operation to capture the man-eating animals. In the latest incident, wolves attacked multiple villages in the Mahsi area, resulting in the tragic death of a three-year-old girl. An elderly woman was also injured and is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital.
The three-year-old was sleeping at home with her mother in Nauvan Garethi village on Sunday night when a wolf dragged her away. Her family, alerted by her screams, chased after her but couldn't find her initially. After an extensive search, villagers discovered her mutilated body some distance from the village.

Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani highlighted the challenge posed by the scattered nature of these attacks across different villages. She noted that teams from the Forest Department and police are working tirelessly to raise public awareness. "I urge everyone to remain vigilant and sleep indoors for the time being," Rani said. "Since July, this is the eighth incident. The government is sensitive to this issue and is closely monitoring the situation. So far, four wolves have been captured," she added, stressing the importance of community awareness and precautions.
'Operation Bhedia' in Full Swing
Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh stated that "Operation Bhedia" is ongoing in the district, but the wolves' changing locations make them difficult to capture. Singh noted that wolf attacks on humans in Mahsi tehsil have been occurring since March, with a notable increase since July 17 during the rainy season. Seven people, including six children, have died, and about 30 people have been injured in these attacks.
