Wolf Attack in Khandwa Leaves Five Family Members Injured

Five family members in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, were attacked by a wolf early Friday morning, according to a senior police official. The incident occurred at 2:30 am in Malgaon village, located in the tribal-dominated Khalwa tehsil, about 20 kilometres from the district headquarters. Harsud Sub Divisional Officer of Police Sandeep Vaskale informed reporters about the attack.

Five Injured in Khandwa Wolf Attack

Neighbours rushed to help after hearing the family's screams and managed to chase away the wolf. A woman sustained injuries on her hands, while four men were bitten. They are currently receiving treatment at Khandwa Medical College Hospital. The injured have been administered rabies shots and other necessary medications, according to Khandwa Divisional Forest Officer Rakesh Damor.

Efforts to Trace the Animal

The wild animal responsible for the attack has not yet been captured. Authorities are actively trying to locate it. According to accounts from the victims, it appears to be a single animal rather than a pack. However, Damor mentioned that it is difficult to confirm if it was indeed a wolf.

A video clip circulating on social media has added to the confusion. "In the video, the animal looks like a jackal to me, a bit smaller than a wolf," Damor said. When asked about the police's assertion that it was a wolf, he refrained from commenting but noted that wildlife matters fall under the forest department's jurisdiction.

Heightened Patrolling and Investigation

Investigations into the incident are ongoing. The victims have suffered bruises from the attack. In response to the incident, patrolling in the area has been increased to ensure safety. This attack in Madhya Pradesh comes amid recent wolf attacks in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, which have garnered national attention.

Over the past two months, Bahraich district has reported eight fatalities, including seven children, due to wolf attacks. Additionally, around three dozen people have been injured in these incidents. This series of attacks has raised concerns and prompted officials to take action.

The situation remains tense as efforts continue to trace and capture the animal involved in the Khandwa attack. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and report any sightings of wild animals immediately.
