Will TDP And JD(U) Stick With NDA? A Look At Their Past Alliance
As the 2024 Lok Sabha election results are out, the spotlight has shifted to the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) key allies, who will play a crucial role in determining the government's future. With the BJP's performance leaving much to be desired, the TDP and JD(U) have emerged as kingmakers in the NDA's bid for government formation.
The TDP, led by Chandrababu Naidu, has put up a commendable show, winning 16 out of 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh. The party's return to the NDA fold earlier this year has been seen as a significant move, and with 134 out of 175 seats in Andhra Pradesh, Naidu is set to play kingmaker. Reports suggest that Naidu and Nitish Kumar will attend the NDA meeting on Wednesday, where top leaders will deliberate on the future of the government.

The JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar, has secured 12 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. Known for his flip-flops, Kumar has switched political sides multiple times, but this time around, he seems to be playing a crucial role in the NDA's plans. The party's performance in Bihar will be crucial for the BJP, which will need Kumar's support to form a stable government.
Other key NDA allies include Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), which won all five seats it contested in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The LJP's son and party chief Chirag Paswan has won from Hajipur, and it will be interesting to see how he carries forward his father's legacy.
The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Janata Dal (Secular) have also performed well, winning two seats each in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka respectively. The RLD joined hands with the NDA only a few months prior to the polls, while the JD(S) has been a long-standing ally.
However, there are some notable absences from the NDA fold. The Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have not performed well in Maharashtra, with Shiv Sena winning seven seats and NCP bagging one seat. The split in these parties has led to a power struggle in the state, and it remains to be seen how they will fare in the upcoming state assembly elections.
With the results indicating a hung Parliament, it is clear that the NDA will need to rely on its key allies to form a government. The next few days will be crucial in determining the fate of the government, and it is likely that we will see some intense negotiations between the BJP and its allies to form a stable coalition.
