Will CA Inter-Final Exam Dates Change? Delhi HC Refuses To Postpone Exams

The Delhi High Court on Monday refused to postpone the Chartered Accountants (CA) inter and final exams 2024. The exams are scheduled to be held in May.

A section of CA aspirants have been demanding the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to postpone the exams citing the Lok Sabha elections. Also, 27 students had approached the Delhi High Court seeking postponement.

However, Justice C Hari Shankar dismissed the plea saying that the exams cannot be postponed on the grounds that some students might face hardship, especially considering approximately 4.26,000 students taking the exams.

"This court is surprised that such a request has been made," Live Law website quoted the court as stating. The judge noted that the Lok Sabha polls are to be held on May 7 and 13 and no exam has been scheduled on May 6 and 12.

The advocate, representing the ICAI, informed the court that rescheduling the exam to the second week of June would disrupt the entire examination process. However, he assured that careful consideration has been given to avoid scheduling any exams on the same date as the elections.

The court noted the proactive measures taken by authorities to ensure that the candidates' ability to vote is not compromised by the exams. Also, it stated that candidates are responsible for managing their schedules and arrangements if they intend to cast their votes.

"For all the aforesaid reason, it is clear on the face of it that the petition is bereft of substance," the court said while dismissing the plea.
