‘Will be done soon': Sonia Gandhi on Rahul's elevation as Congress president

It was earlier reported that Rahul Gandhi will take over as Congress president post-Diwali.

Rahul Gandhi will be made Congress president soon, said Sonia Gandhi today on the sidelines of a function to release former president Pranab Mukherjee's autobiography.

When asked about Rahul's elevation to the post of Congress president, Sonia, as quoted by ANI, said, "Will be done soon."

It was earlier reported that Rahul Gandhi will take over as Congress president post-Diwali. This was informed by Congress leader Sachin Pilot in an interview with news agency PTI.

Pilot told PTI that "there is a general sentiment" in the Congress that Rahul Gandhi should take charge and lead from the front

"Organisational elections of the Congress are underway and the new president could take over shortly after Diwali. It is something that has been in the pipeline for a long time," Pilot had earlier said.

Almost all state Congress units have passed a unanimous resolution, demanding the elevation of Rahul as the party chief.
