Will Amitabh Bachchan be BJP's consensual candidate for President of India?
If the BJP fails to get to the numbers then it would have go in for a consensus candidate.
With just three months to go before the electoral college choses the next President of India, there are at least four names in circulation. The name that is doing the rounds the most is that of BJP patriarch L K Advani. However, the saffron party, which is in a relatively good position to chose its candidate after the big Uttar Pradesh win may just spring a surprise.

The BJP would need the support of either the Biju Janata Dal or the AIADMK to choose its candidate as President. If Advani's name does not work out, then the party may look for either Murali Manohar Joshi or Najma Heptullah.
The push would be for a candidate of its own. However, if the BJP fails to get to the numbers then it would have go in for a consensus candidate. If the situation is such, then the BJP may have to do what it did many years ago when it chose a candidate like Abdul Kalam who went on to become the most-loved President of India.
There is a buzz in some circles that the consensus candidate may be Amitabh Bachchan. It was, in fact, Shatrugan Sinha who once proposed the name of his former co-star with whom he has acted in several movies such as Dostana and Naseeb. He had said that Bachchan has achieved a lot and it would do the country proud if he becomes the President.
However, some in BJP circles tell OneIndia that it is unlikely that the star may make it to Rasina Hill. It has come up for discussion several times, but nothing is final as yet. However with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one never knows as he is famous for springing surprises, the BJP source also said.
