"Why would we live with South Indians if we were racist," Ex-BJP MP Tarun Vijay

Former MP and BJP leader Tarun Vijay landed himself in a controversy after he attempted to justify that Indians were not racist. Speaking to Al Jazeera English, the BJP leader in an attempt to shut another panellist said, "If we were racist, why would we have the entire south (India)? Which is you know, completely Tamil, you know Kerala, you know Karnataka and Andhra. Why do we live with them? We have blacks, black people around us. You are denying your own nation, you are denying your ancestry, you are denying your culture."

The former MP tried to justify that Indians were not racist by claiming that the country worshipped a 'black god'. "To say that Indians can be racist is the most vicious thing because we worship a black god, Krishna is black," he said on live television.

His statement on south Indians and Krishna has sparked off a social media outrage with people trolling the BJP leader for his insensitive comments. Following the backlash, the BJP leader took to twitter to justify his statements.

The BJP leader was speaking on race attacks against African students in New Delhi when he made the controversial statements.
