Why Oscars 2023 is special for Indians?
In less than 12 hours, the Oscars 2023 will be held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This year, Indians have several reasons to cheer.
'Naatu Naatu'
The biggest reason why Indians are eagerly looking forward to Oscars 2023 is to see whether 'Naatu Naatu' song from SS Rajamouli's 'RRR', which is in the race in the Best Original Song category, bags the trophy at the 95th Academy Awards.

In fact, this song, originally composed in Telugu, will be performed on stage by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. And American actor-dancer Lauren Gottlieb will be dancing for the number. She has herself announced the news on her Instagram page as she said, " "SPECIAL NEWS!!! I'm performing on 'Naatu Naatu' at the OSCARS!!!!!! I'm beyond excited to represent India on the most prestigious stage in the world. Wish me luck (sic)!!!."
This song has already driven many international celebrities crazy and won several prestigious awards including Golde Globes Award.
Two Documentaries in Oscars Race
Indian climate change documentary "All That Breathes" has made it to the final nominations list at the 95th edition of the Academy Awards in the Best Documentary Feature segment alongside 'All the Beauty and the Bloodshed', 'Fire of Love', 'A House Made of Splinters' and 'Navalny'. Set in Delhi, the documentary follows two siblings, Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad, who have devoted their lives to rescuing and treating injured birds, especially black kites.
Tamil documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers' has bagged a nomination in the Documentary Short Subject category of the 95th Academy Awards. Directed by Kartiki Gonsalves, the documentary is nominated in the section alongside four other films - 'Haulout', 'How Do You Measure a Year?', 'The Martha Mitchell Effect' and 'Stranger at the Gate'.
'The Elephant Whisperers' depicts an unbreakable bond between two abandoned elephants and their caretakers. It is produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment.
Deepika Padukone to Host
Bollywood star Deepika Padukone will be presenting an award at the upcoming Oscars 2023, where India is nominated in three categories - Original Song, Documentary Feature and Documentary Short. She will be joining the likes of Emily Blunt, Samuel L Jackson, Glenn Close, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B Jordan, Janelle Monae, Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Connelly, Riz Ahmed and Melissa McCarthy among others.
These factors have made this Oscars special for Indians.
