Why Narendra Modi Stadium Is Choosen For World Cup Big Matches?
As the venues for the big World Cup 2023 cricket tournament have now been revealed, many are not too happy with the venues choosen for the big games.
On social media, people are also complaining about why places such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru were not choosen for the big matches in the tournament, which will begin on October 5. Some even have raised objections to Gujarat's Narendra Modi Stadium getting the opportunity to host the inaugural match and the finale.

The tournament will be played in 10 stadiums across 10 different cities in India. The venues for the semi-finals are Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata, respectively.
Notably, the Gujarat stadium will host the mother of all battles - India vs Pakistan on October 15.
The Reason Why Modi Stadium Got Opportunity To Host Big Matches
According to Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) President Jayesh George, the Ahmedabad Stadium is the biggest stadium in the world. Earlier, Eden Gardens was considered for big matches as it had a 60,000-70,000 seating capacity.
"Ahmedabad Stadium has a huge capacity. Before Ahmedabad it was Eden Gardens with 60,000-70,000 capacity, so most of the matches used to go to Eden. Now because Ahmedabad is the best facility and the world's largest stadium definitely more matches will go to that side only. That was a tweet in which he (Shashi Tharoor) did not go to the facts," ANI quoted Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) President Jayesh George in a tweet.
The current seating capacity of the Narendra Modi is around 132,000.
It has to be noted that five matches will be played on this ground.
Shashi Tharoor's Objection
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor registered his unhappiness over Thiruvananthapuram not getting an opportunity to host the match. "Disappointed to see that Thiruvananthapuram's #SportsHub, hailed by many as the best cricket stadium in India, is missing from the #WorldCup2023 fixture list. Ahmedabad is becoming the new cricket capital of the country, but could a match or two not have been allotted to Kerala?" he said on Twitter.
He further stated that it is a long tournament and Mohali, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram had been given the opportunity to host World Cup catches. "They could have spread the joy a little better. Thiruvananthapuram, Mohali and Ranchi should have been given an opportunity to hold a World Cup match. It is not necessary for any one venue to get 4-5 matches. This is a big mistake on the part of BCCI," he said.
One user said, "Hyderabad Stadium the 4th largest cricket stadium in India with 55k capacity also being in a dry plateau region there is minimal chance of rain and no dew factor so match won't be toss dependent I feel it's better than Mumbai and Ahmedabad where dew factor plays huge role."
Questioning why the South Indian states did not get opportunity to host semi-finals, a user said, "Hey @BCCI why are the southern cities not given preference for hosting semifinals and final matches? What's this disparity? Why not Hyderabad? Why not Bengaluru? Why not chennai?" asked a user.
