Why do naxalites up their offensive during the summers
Naxalite attacks are particularly high in the summers, an analysis by the Intelligence Bureau has shown.
It is during the summers that naxalites tend to up the ante and an analysis has shown this pattern over the past several years. This is because the naxals carry out their annual tactical counter offensive campaigns during the summer in a bid to step up offensive activities, an official who has handled the naxal problem tells OneIndia. The security forces are always on a high state of alert during this period. However in the Dantewada attack that took place on Wednesday, the Intelligence looked choppy and the standard operating procedure had not been followed.

Meanwhile a high alert has been sounded in all the seven districts of the naxal-hit Bastar division in Chhattisgarh following the deadly Maoist attack in which 10 police personnel and their driver was killed.
Following the attack that took place at Dantewada, security forces have been asked to stay on high alert while moving in vehicles and conducting de-mining exercises to defuse Improvised Explosive Devices planted by the naxals.
Inspector General of police, Bastar Range said that a high alert has been issued to all district superintendents of police in the Bastar region in the wake of the Dantewada attack.
Kanker, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Bastar, Dantewada, Sukma and Bijapur are part of the Bastar region. These regions have witnessed deadly naxalite attacks.
The blast on Wednesday was a well-planned operation by the naxalites. They used an Improvised Explosive Device weighing 50 kilograms to blow up a rented van in which the police personnel were travelling. The fact that they were travelling in a rented van in such a naxalite infested area itself suggests that the procedures were not followed. Further more the agencies have learnt that the naxalites had more human Intelligence when compared to the state police. On the Intelligence front, it has been found that it was general in nature, but questions remain on whether the same was actionable in nature or not.
