Who will be the next Dera chief? Here’s a list of probables
After Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the self-proclaimed Godman who was accused of rape, was pronounced guilty on August 25, now the question being raised is- who will be inherit the legacy in his absence?
The sect has a sprawling 800-acre campus that houses a multi-specialty hospital, a stadium among other things. Other than acres of immovable assets spread across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, the outfit also boasts of strong political connections.
Here are the list of probabales:
Guru Brahmachari Vipassana:
A 35-year-old woman who is second-in-command in the sect's hierarchy and the sole authority to take call on things on his behalf. Vipassana is considered second place in Dera.
Vipassana is a graduate from the girls college run by the dera. She also heads the 250-member management of whom nearly 150 are women. She has been involved various welfare activities such as congregations or social-service projects dedicated to the destitute and poor devotees or blood donation camps for the army.

Though Honeypreet is an adopted child of Baba, it is believed that she can be considered as a strong contender for the post of the next Dera leader. Honeypreet is also a 'guru brahmachari'. She became the dera chief's confidant seven years ago. She has also acted in all his films.

Ram Rahim's son, Jasmeet, is a businessman and is married to Punjab Congress leader Harminder Singh Jassi's daughter. Various reports have suggested that Jasmeet was declared the heir to his father's throne in 2007.

However, as per Dera norms, the heir of the present chief could not be from his family or clan. This makes all the more significant for Guru Brahmachari Vipasana, the present 'nambardar' of the dera, to run the show after Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
